Co-op Survey Field Assistant – Unity, SK

YOUR ROLE
This is a Co-op Work Term for January to April 2025, in the city of Unity, SK. Accommodation will be provided.
If you love working outdoors while gaining hands-on experience, the Survey Field Assistant position is the perfect role for you. You’ll work alongside some of the most experienced industry leaders and will learn how to:
– Operate survey instruments, GPS, and computer.
– Record measurement and other information obtained during the field survey activities.
– Assist in the determination of precise geographic locations with GPS equipment.
Your duties will include:
– Performing field survey work using appropriate technology, instruments, and tools, with the guidance of Survey Supervisor.
– Preparing and communicating field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for Project Managers and Drafting personnel.
– Acting as a company representative, liaising directly with client field representatives, landowners, and other stakeholders.
– Operating ATVs, UTV, snowmobile, company truck, jackhammer, pipe locators.
– Maintaining and organizing equipment and tools used on the work sites.
– Active participation in and proactively support the advancement of Caltech’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Program.
Your working conditions will include:
– Primarily fieldwork; in all weather conditions.
– Frequent long-distance travel (driving), extensive time spent in hotels.
– Lifting, pushing, pulling, walking, standing with items up to 50 lbs.
– Constant balancing, climbing, and walking on uneven ground and terrain.
– Frequent bending and reaching
– Operate ATV/UTV/Snowmobile
– Frequent use of arm strength to pound in markers/pins/stakes/post.
– Frequent exposure to loud noises
– Constant communication (spoken, written, reading)
– Manual dexterity is required to use laptop computer and peripherals, and for manual drawings.
– Overtime as required based on workload.
YOUR SKILLS
To be successful in this role, you will need:
– Enrolled in a degree or diploma in surveying and geomatics OR demonstrate an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
– Strong willingness to learn the methods, technology, equipment, and tools used in field surveys.
– Ability to work extended hours.
– Ability to lift up to 50lbs in weight.
– Ability to work outdoors under varied weather conditions.
– Ability to take the initiative as well as work in a team environment and follow instructions.
– Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
– Current drivers’ license and acceptable driver’s abstract as per company policy.
– Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing as needed to access work sites.
