CAD Technician

Join Caltech as a CAD Technician and contribute to a wide range of exciting and impactful projects! As a CAD Technician, you will be responsible for the development and preparation of survey drawings including well sites, subdivisions, pipelines, individual ownership, and crossing plans.

What You’ll Do

  • Interpret field notes, sketches, legal plans, air photos, and digital data to produce accurate and detailed CAD drawings.
  • Complete survey computations, including GPS and conventional data processing, to establish legal boundaries and construction layouts.
  • Operate computer-assisted design (CAD) and drafting workstations to generate plans for submission.
  • Prepare plans for submission to the Land Registry Office and Sustainable Resources Development.
  • Compile documentation packages and produce comprehensive drawing sets.
  • Perform initial office checks on all existing and proposed wells, pipelines, and legal boundaries using government sites such as ISC and IRIS.
  • Ensure adherence to production standards, procedures, and data quality and integrity across all projects.

What You Bring

  • Diploma in Geomatics Technology, OR Design and Drafting Technology, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience drafting or mapping legal and oil and gas plans.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3-D coordinate calculation software.
  • Strong commitment to excellence, attention to detail and time management.
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Software is an asset.
  • Understanding of Western Canada Township setup (DLS) is an asset.
  • Understanding of field survey and traversing is an asset.
  • Understanding of the requirements for plan submissions to ISC and/or Sustainable Resource Development is an asset.
  • Experience processing and extracting data from 3D sources such as LiDAR and imagery is an asset.
  • Experience processing imagery, including coordinate transformations, indirect/direct georeferencing, bundle block adjustment, and generating derivative products (e.g., point clouds, 3D textured mesh, DSM, DTM, orthomosaics) is an asset.
  • Experience reviewing Building Information Models (BIM) for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project and client specifications is an asset.
  • Experience assessing geospatial deliverable accuracy and generating verification reports is an asset.
