Communication Infrastructure Upgrades
In 2018, Pembina Pipeline Corporation embarked on its most ambitious project in four decades. The Communication Infrastructure Upgrade (CIU) involved designing and installing some 26 new communications towers for data transmission. The project took place on Crown and freehold lands, encompassing 33 Alberta locations and three British Columbia sites. Caltech’s specific project deliverables included:
+Individual ownership survey plans
+Construction plans
+Consultation mapping
+Crown land disposition packages
+Legal plans
Caltech is proud to have contributed project services delivered early and under budget and set a new standard for utility and infrastructure projects. By the time the project was completed in June 2021, the Caltech team had contributed more than 4,300 hours to the project, with Caltech field crews traveling close to 100,000 kilometers to deliver the necessary geomatics services. Thanks to the diligence of Caltech’s field crew, an engineering issue was caught early in the process and was resolved quickly, saving significant human and financial resources for the client.
Caltech’s key contributions were:
+Recommendations for tower locations
+Initial site surveys
+Lidar acquisition
+Surface lease survey
+Crown land disposition survey
+Management of regulatory processes
+Construction and volumetric surveys
+Grade staking
+Management of pile locations and cutoff adjustments
+Final site grading
+14 miscellaneous builds at existing stations
+4 co-locate buildouts
